The 8 Most Specific LinkedIn Groups for Industrial Ecology

The social media marketing hype seems to be declining, whereas a seemingly infinite flood of mobile internet devices, smartphones and tablets conquer conference audiences and public places. What’s left is a rising proportion of users who, rather than just share countless self portraits on facebook, turn the mobile technology to good account. If you form a part of the latter, or want to do so, and also work in an industry-related sustainability field, find the most relevant LinkedIn groups in this article. I bet my (old) netbook you’ll find at least one useful group you haven’t heard of! I am not talking about green business in general, which is of course well and broadly represented throughout the social media landscape. Instead, I refer to people exchanging specific, industry applicable information such as increasing material and energy efficiency with concrete measures, reducing emissions, improving processes, relevant norms, case studies and trends. I also have in mind these little crispy headlines, ideal for spicing up a short wait without insulting your boulevard-overkill suffering senses too much. Ready?

Comparative LCA buying new car or not?

Honestly, who hasn’t had this discussion? I know at least five car enthusiasts arguing that their old, inefficient (but classy, as they say) bucket saves the earth the resources needed to produce a new car. This time, I found the discussion at LCA in Industry, and three sophisticated studies were the answer. You see? Social networks do make a difference when you use the right ones correctly. Many of the “LCA in Industry” users are also active in the sister group Life Cycle Assessment. It’s hard to tell which one to chose – I recommend both. Despite its promising name, the Full Product Transparency group currently lacks activity. Maybe it’ll catch up with the vibe in the future.

Energy & Carbon Management News mentions an extremely simple, but effective measure: How Painting Roofs White Can Help ‘Turn Off The World For A Year’. Sticking to the carbon footprinting topic, it is worth taking a look inside the Carbon Management Tools and the Low Carbon Best Practice Exchange groups.

More of a headhunter playground, but still having some nice discussions on offer: the Water Treatment Industry Group. Specific material flow questions in the chemical industry are discussed in the Reactive Flows and Chemical Kinetics Group. A bit more general, but not least interesting, is the Air Emissions Control Equipment group.
