Ever since January 2021, when the reporting of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) in articles as such and in complex objects to the SCIP database became mandatory for EU based companies, we have all been waiting for the dissemination portal of the database to be made available by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). The publication of the portal has been delayed several times and ECHA has announced its availability for September 2021.
Dissemination Portal now online avilable
Today, September 14th, ECHA has announced the go-live of the dissemination portal, it can now be accessed via ECHA’s SCIP landing page: https://echa.europa.eu/de/scip-database.
At the moment, the portal contains over 4.2 million entries and is accessible publicly. Based on our experience with the portal, loading all the data takes a while. You must do so however in order to be able to continue. Searching the portal is possible via product name and numerical identifiers, article category (TARIC code), material and mixture category, substance of concern, and reason for inclusion of the SVHC into the Candidate List.
What information can you find?
Information in the form of a so-called SCIP factsheet can be viewed for individual entries. You will find information describing the product like name and numerical identifiers as well as information on the SVHC(s) contained, the material and/or mixture category as well as information on safe use. The SCIP factsheet also incorporates as small “navigation menu” providing the hierarchical structure of the product as given by the submitter.
Who needs to report?
Reporting to SCIP database is mandatory for all EU based manufactures, importers, assemblers, and distributors putting products containing an SVHC > 0.1% w/w in an article on the EU market. If you have questions regarding your SCIP reporting obligations and challenges do not hesitate to contact us.
